Why do I need to do Customs Clearance?

Following Brexit all goods entering or leaving the EU require customs clearance, this is a compulsory process which allows HM Customs & Excise to account for any duties and taxes due and also monitor which goods are coming into or leaving the UK.

Who is responsible?

It is the trader’s legal responsibility to ensure declarations are submitted, failure to do so could be subject to financial civil penalties imposed on the trader by HMRC under the Customs Civil Penalty (CCP) system.

Can I do it myself?

Yes you can however this can be a complex process and most traders employ a customs broker to complete declarations for them, we at Bounty Freight have extensive experience in customs procedures, having been approved by HMRC as an Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) we can guide you through the process.

Why employ a broker?

Using a customs broker to help clear your shipment through UK customs can make life much easier. There is a cost to this but it can reduce the risks involved in importing, freeing up your time to focus on your business.

How much does it cost?

Costs can vary from broker to broker, we at Bounty Freight offer very competitive rates for both Import Clearance and Export T1's. Unlike larger organisations we are able to offer a personal touch ensuring you get the best level of service. Get in touch for a free quotation.

How long does Customs Clearance take?

The Customs Clearance process can vary from shipment to shipment, and is dependent on what goods are entering the country. Certain products may need additional documentation checks or a physical examination to ensure that declarations are correct. As an Authorised Economic Operator we at Bounty Freight get priority clearances with HMRC.
